Drug Safety in Critical Patients

Clinical pharmacokinetics of drugs in critical patients

The pharmacokinetics of drugs in special critical patient populations varies considerably. In collaboration with clinical units of the University Hospital of Leipzig (UKL) and other hospitals, we are project partners in clinical observational studies. Currently, we investigate concentrations and pharmacokinetics of the echinocandine antimycotic drug posaconazol in immune-compromised patients, and of the opioid meptazinol in mothers and newborns during the perinatal period. The results are correlated with pharmacodynamics and/or adverse drug effects in order to derive recommendations for the safer use of such drugs in practical medicine.
