The UltraSensitive Protein Detection Unit (USPDU) focuses on the development of new techniques aimed at the specific detection of proteins. Goals are assays which allow a highly versatile, sensitive and/or fast detection. We are most specialized in the areas of fluorescence and time-resolved fluorescence (phosphorescence) techniques and their application for protein detection. Furthermore, the rational design of enzymes and their use for protein detection is a main interest of our group.

The following techniqes are established in the group: peptide synthesis, fluorescence labeling including time-resolved fluorescence and FRET, 1D- and 2D-gels, mass spectrometry (Orbitrap with ETD, MALDI-TOF, ESI), HPLC, recombinant protein expression and purification, protein modifications, side-specific coupling of agents to proteins and peptides.
