Structural Analysis of Biopolymers
The Institute of Bioanalytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy was founded on September 1st 2006 with two professorships in „Bioanalytics“ and „Structural Analysis of Biopolymers“
Both professorships where established at the Center for Biotechnology and Biomedicince (BBZ) of Leipzig University as part of the Biotechnology initiative of the Free State of Saxony. Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Ralf Hoffmann (Bioanalytics) and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Norbert Sträter (Structural Analysis of Biopolymers) where appointed on May 21st 2002. Both research groups were initially financed by the Ministry of Science and Art of Saxony (SMWK) before transferred to Leipzig University January 1st 2007.
The junior research group “Ultrasensitive Protein Detection” was established in June 2007 as part of the professorship for Bioanalytics. This group is financed by the InnoProfile progam of the Federal Mininstry of Education and Research (BMBF) for 4 years and supervised by Dr. rer. nat Thole Zuechner.
The research of the institute is dedicated to elucidation of structural, functional and regulatory aspects of proteins in the context of different diseases. Besides basic research and method development financed mostly by grant money, different diagnostic and therapeutic aspects are developed in close collaborations with companys.
