Bookham Caswell, is a leading manufacturer of the optical components, modules and subsystems used in diverse markets, including telecommunications, data communications, aerospace, industrial, consumer optics, semiconductors, scientific and defence. The Bookham Caswell site has a 5300m2 cleanroom facility which includes wafer fabrication and manufacturing support for Production and R&D, based around a world class 3 inch indium phosphide processing line. Bookham is committed to offering new and innovative technologies that address current customer needs as well as emerging market requirements. Bookham’s broad portfolio of products is based around a set of integrated chip building blocks providing gain, tuning and modulator functions. It is within these building blocks that SAN may yield significant advantages over the conventional QW and bulk materials. Therefore, Bookham’s activities within SANDiE are focussed on integrating SAN technology with QW and bulk materials on an InP based platform. As an industrial partner within the Network, Bookham can provide expertise at all levels from industrial growth and device physics through to fabrication, packaging, test and reliability. For example, our specialist facet coatings have enabled record low threshold current densities from USFD QD lasers. Finally, as a large component manufacturer, Bookham will provide a major exploitation route for novel materials technologies.
