Revolutions and Transformations in Global Perspective, 1989-2019

Centre for Area Studies (Leipzig U), SFB 1199 (Leipzig U) in cooperation with EEGA, GSGAS & GWZO

We invite you to the international conference “Revolutions and Transformations in Global Perspective, 1989-2019” from 12 to 15 June 2019. It is organized by the Centre for Area Studies of Leipzig University, the Graduate School Global and Area Studies, the Leibniz ScienceCampus »Eastern Europe – Global Area«, the Leibniz Institute for History and Culture of Eastern Europe and the collaborative Research Centre 1199 “Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition” at Leipzig University.

The conference will focus on the relationship between the global moment of “1989” and the many political, economic, social and cultural transformations that have taken place across the world during the last 30 years. We are very happy that scholars from all over the world will share their insights to the entanglements, path-dependencies and crossing memories that developed in various world regions from “1989” and connections between “1989” and increasing levels of political, economic and cultural global interdependence with us.

To promote the collaboration with early career researchers, we have organized this conference in close cooperation with the Summer School of the Graduate School Global and Area Studies. Both events share the same overall topic and the conception of the conference programme offers the opportunity to interlinkages and joint discussions.
The keynote on “1989: A Global History of Eastern Europe” will be presented by James Mark, Professor of History at the University of Exeter and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Leibniz ScienceCampus „Eastern Europe – Global Area“ (EEGA).

Please note that the conference will take at two different venues as indicated in the programme. The detailed programme is to be found here: Link.

Please register until 7 June 2019 by e-mail to cas@uni-leipzig.de.

The conference is generously funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur.
