The Platform: A new Spatial Format?

The weekly colloquium of the Collaborative Research Centre provides a forum for presentations by external guests as well as by members of the SFB 1199 within a tailored thematic framework. This week, Sarah Ruth Sippel, principal investigator of the sub-project C04, will give a talk titled The Platform: A new Spatial Format? Platform economy, platform capitalism, platformification, platformization — in recent years, the spatial metaphor of the platform has proliferated to describe transformations within the global economy. Can the platform be considered as a new spatial format, and should thus be integrated into the SFB 1199’s systematic analysis? This presentation seeks to start this discussion based on a review of the mushrooming platform literature and its spatial references.
