Heiter Scheitern

The SFB 1199 invites all interested postdocs and PhD students to the Villa Tillmann. The meeting is meant to give us space to network and talk about our common future under the title ‘Heiter Scheitern’ (happy failing).

The Career Centre of Leipzig University will start off the evening by introducing career paths outside the academic world. Afterwards, Dirk van Laak will show from the perspective of a ‘completed’ university career what convoluted life paths within academia look like. Alfred Strigl will share his perspective on the process under the title “Wie mich scheitern gescheiter gemacht hat” (How failing made me cleverer). He left academia after completing his doctorate, aborted his habilitation and is now active as a coach, primarily in sustainability strategies/continuing education/start-ups.

The speakers will present for about 20 to 30 minutes and then be floor is open for questions from the audience. This will be followed by an informal exchange among all guests, accompanied by dinner with live music.
