Infrastrukturen

Abstract

Als „Infrastrukturen“ werden seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts Einrichtungen der Versorgung und Entsorgung, der Kommunikation und des Verkehrs bezeichnet, in einem erweiterten Sinne auch solche, die unsere Gesellschaft ökonomisch, sozial, kulturell oder medial miteinander vernetzen. Dirk van Laak rekapituliert die Konjunktur des Begriffs, geht auf die jüngere Geschichte ein und skizziert abschließend ausgewählte Felder, in denen Infrastrukturen momentan erforscht oder weiter analysiert werden könnten.

Biographical Note

Dirk van Laak (SFB 1199, Leipzig University, Germany)

Prof. Dr. Dirk van Laak has been full professor of the history of the 19th to 21st centuries in Leipzig since 2016. He studied at the Gesamthochschule Essen from 1982 to 1989 and received his doctorate from the Fernuniversität Hagen in 1992. From 1993 to 2007 he was an assistant in Jena and held visiting and substitute professorships in Chicago (1995/96), Tübingen (2002/03) and Freiburg (2003/04). From 2007 to 2016 he was full professor of contemporary history in Gießen. His research focuses on German, European and globalization history, the history of intellectuals and infrastructure, the history of literature and historiography.
