A4 – Chemical modification of proteins for the characterisation of matrix-protein interactions

We plan to improve the biocompatibility of implants by two approaches:

1. Implants shall be better included into tissue by a specific immobilisation of protein mediators. Accordingly, surface-immobilised peptides shall be conjugated to implants and further decorated with aECM segments and protein mediators.

2. As inflammation is major problem in implant technology, the interaction of ECM segments with immune modulatory chemokines shall be investigated. Modified analogues of IL-8 will be prepared and investigated to reduced the immunological potential of modified ECMs
